Students Talk About 2009 Council Bluffs College and Career Days
The following comments are from students who attended the Council Bluffs College and Career Days that was held at both the Henry Doorly Zoo and the University of Nebraska at Omaha on March 25 and 26, 2009.

Here's what some of the participating students had to say about their experiences:
Tiffany - "I learned that no matter how expensive college is you should still go and fulfill your dreams at what you want to be. UNO seems like a very successful place for me to fulfill my dreams."
Brooke - "I think this was a very nice experience because it helped open my mind to more jobs. I didn't know some of these jobs existed. I also am now considering UNO for a future college."
Stephanie - "It helped me by showing me that there are many different jobs."
Alicia - "I liked learning about Google and the housing at UNO and IWCC."
Genevieve - "College and Career Day was a great way for me to decide a little bit about where I wanted to go to college. I was actually thinking about going to UNO and actually going to the campus and hearing just a little bit about what they had to offer was good. I enjoyed learning about Metro and IWCC as well. IWCC would be a good college to attend to further my training in the Culinary Arts since I want to be a chef. I learned a lot from my experience at Career Day, and they actually made it fun and made you actually want to pay attention. I especially enjoyed the presentation on how the Internet has changed our world."
Tanya - "I liked learning about the colleges. It was a pretty good experience."
Alex - "I learned that there are many career paths and colleges in the area to choose from. "
Andrew - "This was helpful to me by giving me some ideas about what to do after college."
Forrest - "The value of this college & career days were that I was able to learn more about colleges and which ones offer what. So the benifit from this experience was that I now have the knowledge of what colleges are out there."
Tanner - "I think the trip shed some light on the choices we have at the colleges. I now know there are so many things that different colleges offer, one could have a nice science program but the other might have a better sports program. I appreciated the trip and the info. . . Thanks!"
Jessica - "I think the value of this college career expo type thing, is good for highschool students because it shows them that there are good opportunities in the omaha/council bluffs metro."
Tinisha - "I think that the importance of this college & career days have made me see more options as what I could become. It mostly gave me more knowledge about the colleges around the sournding areas, and the classes available."
Alex - "I am now interested in working at the zoo. I learned that you can earn alot of money with education after highschool."
Joie - "It helped me to start considering what college i may want to attend."
Allyson - "I learned that Google would be an interesting place to work. I had not even considered that before."
Katie - "The college and career days helped me figure out what colleges I want to go to after high school, and what I want to do with my life after high school."
Amie - "I learned that even though some colleges are small, you can still get the same amount of education from them and sometimes it is better to go to a smaller college so that you can have a smaller class size."
Austin - "Well the two days that this was going on I had a lot of fun. It showed me that I don't have to go out of the area to go to college. I am going to talk to my parents about what college I should go to around Iowa and Nebraska."
Kevin - "It was helpful in informing me about colleges in the area that I didn't know much about. I learned about alot of jobs that I didn't know existed."
Ryan - "I learned about the colleges and how to apply and about some of the careers and how much school you have to take to be able to get that job."
Lucas - "It helped me in making some decisions about college."
Tyler - "The College and Career Days experience showed me a little bit of all the careers and colleges that are out there and it gave me a lot to think about in my future."
Gabrielle - "I am deciding yet what I want to be and these types of things help."
Emily - "I learned about the different jobs of someone working at the zoo. The most interesting part to me was the graphic designing at the zoo.
Chris - "Well it as very informational. They talked a lot about colleges and how many years certain jobs require. I cant wait to see who they bring next year."
Ashley - "It was not very valuable to me, but I feel it is very valuable to other students to help them decide on a career and college. I have already decided before this college and career day which field and college I am going to."
Brandon - "I think it was very helpful just to see the different opportunities there is. "
Natosha - "I learned a lot of interesting things about career and college. Before I had the chance to attend career connections I was kind of lost on what I wanted to study or what college I went to. I really know what I want to do now. I am going to internship at the zoo this summer for a zoo keeper. I am going to study animals. I wish there was just a whole week of days like that not only was it educational and interesting it was also fun. Thanks you for letting us attend."
Austin - "I learned how to choose colleges and why we need college and what careers are out there and what other people do behind the scenes. It was really great not only time away from school but a chance to learn what you do when you get out of high school and your ready to move on with your education."
Kayleigh - "I learned a lot about local colleges, which was really helpful."
Brieanne - "It was fun we got to see some things that others have never seen! We got to learn new jobs that i didn't even know exsited."
Morgan - "I learned alot about the jobs they talked about. I had no idea they did so much to make everything run smoothly. Expecially when we went to the zoo, I never thought about how they have to have certain people to make all the flyers and paperwork for the zoo."
Sean - "I thought this field trip gave me an opportunity to learn what career opportunities are available to me and how important a college education is."
Tasha - "I thought that my experience was very valuable as it helped to clear up questions I had regarding finding a career and education needed to have that career. "
Joel - "I learned that even if it seems like you can't go to college and have a good job you can.Also that there are people and places willing to help you reach your goals."
Jamie - "I learned about different careers and schools offered in Iowa. I know for sure that I need to further my education to get a respectable job."
Steve - "It was a great trip to get away from school and informed me about metro colleges. I learned that if you dream of something, it can be possible to get to. I also learned that UNO is a good university to pursue your dreams at."
Amy - "I learned that there are a lot of colleges in the area that are interested in helping me. There are a lot of jobs that also need a college degree and that you need one to have another."
Andrew - "It gave me a very good look at what careers their are for me to choose from. I learned that Google has many locations."
Chad - "I learned about the various degree opportunities in different fields."
Renae - "This experience showed us some jobs and possibility's we dont normally just think of."
Allyson - "Gave me a broader knowledge base of what the area clolleges offer."
Christopher - "I learned many different careers or job opportunities and where I am able to obtain the education required. It has increased my awareness of the opportunities that exist in my future."
Rachele - "It was good to learn about all the jobs in the area and what you needed to get into those kinds of jobs."
Lisa - "The college and career days was valuable to me because it showed me options that I didn't know I had, especially so close to home. I learned a lot of important things that I will use when picking a college that best suites me and the career path I decide to take, such as majors offered by each school and how the learning environment is just what I want."
Tanner - "It really showed me that I need to plan and prepare more. I learned that there are many career choices that I should consider."
Aaron - "I learned that I have many choices for a career as well as where I want to receive my training for that career. I am glad I went."
Alicia - "This event gave me better insight to what my major might be. Also made me decide to stay in Iowa for sure with my career."
Tiffany - "Its great to know what you want to do and learning about all the opportunities and jobs in this world that fulfill peoples dreams."
Brooke - "I like how the speakers were from different types of careers. I also liked how music was one of the options because I want to be a lyricist."
Andrew - "I liked the part at UNO the best because I liked learning about the colleges and the different career opportunities."
Jessica - "I liked how we got to learn about all the colleges, cost, opportunities, areas of study...ect."
Allyson - "I liked the man that represented UNO. He was really funny, and influenced me to go on a tour of their campus. I had never thought about going there before until he talked to us. And the hand-outs were a bonus too."
Amie - "I liked that everyone made it interesting and how the speakers got everyone involved in their presentations. I also liked the videos that each speaker included in their presentations."
RaLynn - "I found it all good. Seeing what jobs were at the zoo I found better because I like animals and would love to just work in a place around them."
Lucas - "I was able to learn a lot of interesting things about jobs and the universities. It helped me to chose a college. And I saw that there are many different kinds of jobs in a single environment like the zoo."
Gabrielle - "This event helped me to decide that I do want to further my education after high school."
Emily - "Going to the zoo and seeing the graphic design room. It was interesting to go behind the scenes and see how everything works."
Chris - " Being able to talk and ask questions to the people from the colleges."
Tyler - "I liked all the places we went and all the free stuff and all the information about the colleges/universities."
Genevieve - "What I liked best about the College and Career Day experience was the chance to hear about Google. Google has definitely changed people's views on practically everything and since there's actually a Google here in Council Bluffs now, I definitely wanted to find out what people were doing in there."
Tasha - "The part of the experience I liked best was going to UNO and learning about all of the different college opportunities."
Joel - "What I liked best about the college and career day was I was able to actually see some of the things and hear some stories about how people got to where they are and how we could relate it to what we are tryinng to accomplish."
Jamie - "I liked how they kept everything really short at UNO. Nobody dragged on. It was all pretty interesting to hear."
Amy - "I liked going to the zoo, I want to vecome a marine biologest and that kick started my career."
Christopher - "I liked going to the assembly at UNO and learning about different careers and the opportunities that nearby colleges have to offer."
Lisa - "The most enjoyable part of the college and career days would have been listening to the representatives of each college or company talk about how to plan for our future and the best way for us to get there. "
Chelsie - "I liked going in the behind the scenes things at the zoo. I thought it was very interesting and I learned quite a bit."
Noah - "I liked going to the zoo and getting to see how things work and the equiptment used to make it operate. . . and the free stuff!!"
Tanner - "I liked the many different people and the amount of information that they had about possible choices."
Matt - "I had a fun and liked all of it."
Aaron - "I liked being on a college campus to see a glimpse of college life."
